Oil recommendation 2007 Acura RDX

Folks,
I am looking for a recommendation for my wife's car.

1. What kind of vehicle you have

2007 Acura RDX 2.4L Turbo.

2. What your owner's manual says -- not just viscosity, but certifications (look for acronyms like API SM, ILSAC GF-4, etc.) and change intervals as well

Car isn't here now....but I know that they insist on M1 5W-30. I believe Pennzoil Platinum is also acceptable.

3. Where you live

Maryland - Warm-Hot summers, cold winters (lately at least)

4. How you drive (easy? hard? fast? slow?)

Easy (wife's car)

5. What your daily drive is like (short trips? long trips? city? highway?)

60 miles/day to/from work. 90% Highways w/o traffic.

6. Whether your car has any known problems

No known problems. The car has a Hondata tune. I don't know the boost it is pushing.



I've gone with the recommended M1 and Pennzoil Platinum (5W-30) on her car since we've had it.

Well, to start with, todays oils are now SN/GF-5 but, I am completely certain that you already knew that!

And, your Acura RDX being turbocharged, you also want to stay with an oil that Honda recommends for that turbo. I would start with your favorite oil in 5W30 and go from there! Like Mobil 1 or Pennzoil Platinum with the HT-06(or what ever Honda's spec is).

These 5W30's will easily work with your MD climate in the winter or summer!

with a turbo engine I would use M1-0w40 if you are stuck on a 30w then Castrol 0w30

I believe your RDX calls for a 5w30 with the HTO-06 spec.

The M1 and PP 5w30 you already use both meet the HTO-06 standard.

Castrol 5w30 also meets the HTO-06 standards, and I think QSUD does, too.

Sometimes Havoline Synthetic goes on sale at a great price.

Any of the above you can get the best price on would be fine.

WARNING: Valvoline's Synpower does NOT list the HTO-06, and the Napa Synthetic doesn't, either.

I used to have a RDX and have used Mobil1 and Pennzoil Platinum 5W30 with zero issues.

ILSAC GF5 will meet TEOST for turbo. HONDA HTO-06 is pretty much obsolete. I would run MOTUL XMAX or AMSOIL SIG and go 7-8K. If on the "cheap" EDGE gold bottle with Ti or Pennsoil Ultra which is a bargain GTL true synthetic.

I would include Valvoline Synpower for its excellent TEOST results according to an Amsoil test of 5w30...
