No, I don't. What does that have to do with how good the basestock is?

I agree. I even posted a thread about it WAY back before BITOG changed to the current forum server, and asked Pablo about it point blank. He confirmed that the old 194 VI formulation of TSO had no VIIs.

Well, you seemed to be implying that even the mighty Red Line couldn't formulate anything wider than 5w-20 or 10w30 without VIIs. What I said was, I thought Red Line formulated ALL their oils without VIIs except the 5w-40 and I guess the new 0w-40. That's what I heard from them when I spoke with them on the phone. That was a while ago, though. Have they gone budget in the past year or so?

What I'm implying is that a VII-less 0w30 is not as outlandish as you're suggesting.

There have been PAO and ester basestocks with VIs of 200+ for years. That stuff would get you to 0w30 in a heartbeat.

I'll take your word for it that GC uses no VIIs. The last thing I remember reading back when the GC hype was going around was that it had a healthy dose of VIIs. I read it on here.

If the 0w30 GC has no VIIs, then I see no reason not to use it in a high performance Subie.

As for Redline, I think we agree, I just have a hard time explaining myself when I'm falling asleep at the keyboard.

wouldnt Rotella T Synthetic 5w40 be a good choice in the STi, or most any street driving turbo car for that matter?

I just picked up a couple gallons today to try it out in my Neon SRT4. Its a pretty thick oil compared to the ASL I was using. I get pretty low idle oil pressure with the ASL(~8 lbs), so I figured I would give something else a try. I do track the car also, so I guess the thicker oil will help.

Yes, I think RTS will work very well in an STi. There is a very nice 8,100 mile used oil analysis of the RTS in a 2005 STi with very nice results over in the used oil analysis section. I may try it in my STi for the warmer months here in MN (I'm due for an oil change in a few weeks), but I probably will stick with GC for the rest of the colder months.
