Hello there again folks. I have been running Super Tech oil for about 1,000 miles since I changed my oil and its 5w20. I dont know how to ask this question but here goes. I honestly think I would better off using Pennzoil Conventional or Valvoline Conventional for 5k oci instead of Super Tech oil. Plan to do a used oil analysis on this stuff also. May use Pennzoil Conventional and Valvoline conventional next oil change with one of the 2 Super Tech oil filters. Let me know your opinions, thoughts and suggestions. Someone here informed me that Super Tech oil may just barely meet minimum SN and SM specs so any info on that subject and your experiences would be appreciated.

Question should be (forgot to ask it in post) is using Super Tech oil as good as using Pennzoil Conventional or Valvoline Conventional or no? I have 2 5qt jugs and can sell both for what I paid for it as friend has a beater 02 accord and can use it as he does 3-4 oci's. When I was using Valvoline conventional I was doing 5 oci's with wix filter.
 
There are a couple old used oil analysis of a Chevy Suburban having a good 9,000 mile run with SuperTech Synthetic.
I was going to do a 10,000 mile OCI with Mobil 1 5w30 in my Taurus when it developed a leak from the timing chain cover. I topped it off with about a quart every 1,500 miles with SuperTech Synthetic.
I decided to go about 11,000 miles before I dumped it because I had so much makeup oil in there.

I would say that SuperTech Synthetic is better than some Conventional oils but not as good as Name Brand Synthetic.
I would not be worried about a 5,000 or 6,000 mile OCI on it.
 
OK, maybe I didnt make this clear. I am talking about ST conventional 5w20 oil, NOT SYNTHETIC. Think I will use Pennzoil conventional or Valvoline conventional. I just hate the fact that ST could/can barely meet SM or SN ratings. I wouldnt use a better filter either electrolover, as I have a ST 7317 on my 03' civic lx, 1.7L SOHC. No problems at all either. WIX are pricy and good in my eyes.
 
Which supertech? The Mobil clean bottle one or the Wpp? If Jugs I would say its the Wpp (at least it is up here). All current oils pass GF-4 SM comfortably so no big difference there - and the Mobil has shown to have a lower volatility base stock. If the car runs fine I wouldnt worry and if it does not run well I couldnt tell you what to run. As far as cheap, Shell Formula and Havoline/Chevron - to of the least expensive oils on the market give some the best used oil analysis - not that used oil analysis wear metals will mean anything unless the engine is broken. I would skip the used oil analysis unless you are trying to extend OCI past 5k miles in a short tripper or a "killer" towing application.

This is not true in any shape or form so dont dwell on this misinformation. Go to PQI America site - they have all these oils compared and see it for yourself (though they dont have any 5w-20 tested AFAIK.
 
Those 1.7L Civic engines are soooooooooo easy on oil, you could go 500K miles with Supertech conventional oil. Use the least expensive oil you can find.

BTW, check you gas pedal cable cause most 2001-2005 Civic are known for having lots of slack in the cable.
 
Thanks ArcoGraphite and LT4Vette. Think I will use this 5w20 to 5,000 miles then use the other 5qt jug and keep on using it. I have a 25 min commute to work and very little short trip drives/driving. Car and engine and overall run great. No problems. I already checked the gas pedal cable also and thanks for that info; as I will check the female friends gas pedal cable thurs night.

I would agree, I'm sure Super Tech is fine but I would put money that Pennzoil Conventional or Valvoline conventional are better oils. Especially with the trouble that Warren has had lately, I am not trying to beat a dead horse but I am

What do you mean?? I just agreed with you. You said it would probably be a good idea to change over...I agree. I have nothing against Walmart oil, I just KNOW WPP is not on par with the "big Guys". Warren was just sued by the state of CA. for mislabeling products, it was a debacle. I Think you should put whatever you well please in your car.
 
Ok, sorry. I plan to probably use Pennzoil conventional the next oci. When I saw you repost my reply; I didnt know what was going on so I apologize.

I have always liked Pennzoil conventional even though my stubborn, hard headed dad always loved valvoline. I know right off hand; 25 friends/family that love Pennzoil conventional and dont hesitate to use it to 5500-6000 miles oci
 
Hey chubbs1, and I am still learning here on BITOG so bear with me. Sorry if I came off as rude. Work has me stressing me out some plus I am worryin bout my real father as he took himself to the hospital while back with high blood pressure. I plan to take back two 5qt jugs of Super Tech 5w20 and get two or three 5qt jugs of Pennzoil 5w20 conventional. I was in panama city FL in springtime 2005, to help out after the big hurricane that hit. Beautiful state and very nice and generous people. Where is Sunrise FL at? I see the FLORIDA PANTHERS of the NHL play there
