The gauge on my 1996 Grand Cherokee was showing zero oil pressure, but was not leaking and the engine was not running hot. Then it started leaking through a plastic clip\plug with a few wires coming out of it near the oil filter. Is this the sensor and will replaciing this part solve my problem or is it something bigger. Thank you for reading

It sounds like the insulation in the pressure sender has broken, thus the leak. You are describing the correct location for this sender.

You can just replace this part - it just screws in place - and the problem should go away.

I'd guess that somebody hit the sender pretty hard while changing the oil filter, causing the insulation to crack.

Not familiar with your vehicle, but I did replace the oil pressure sending unit on my Nissan. The plastic cracked. Oil was all over the wiring harness and the top of the oil filter. I had to buy a large socket to be able to change it out. After buying a socket at Advance I saw a nice universal one at Auto Zone that was cheaper(oh, well). I bought the sending unit at Auto Zone, so far no problem.
