Oil pressure guage

Hello all, I have a 99 Ranger with 235,000 miles on it. Over the last year or so the oil pressure guage doesn't move until the engine warms up or a flaps a bit before staying up. There is no ticking when driving or anything. Ofcourse it is worse in the winter months. What could the problem be? 2.5 litre stick shift...

Bad sensor or Gauge would be my thought.

I'd confirm the gauge reading with a mechanical unit directly attached first. I agree with Bill that if there are no other issues, it's probably a sensor or gauge issue.

good mileage,,what kind of oil,,,and is it a 4 or 6 cyld

Some Fords have this problem. Im for sure the pre-powerstrokes had problems with oil gauges, so it dont suprise me.

It is a 4 cyl 2.5 litre (mazda engine) I believe. The mileage is decent, mid 20's. Seems to run pretty good.

A sensor, connector, or wire could be faulty.
Sure, it could be low pressure, but I'd get these parts right first.
