The gauge works like an on/off switch, or like an idiot light.
How can I convert it to indicate actual oil pressure?

I asked this question on another thread on this subject;

No answer there either

If you find out how to do this could you post it here?

I`ll do the same. I have a 03 Dakota with the 4.7.

I doubt that you can get that gauge to indicate anything but what it does already. It is a needle gauge (or so you indicate) which means that it has to have some current spec for FSD (full scale deflection). That is, unless they just put two equal magnetic coils on either side of it and then just switch them on and off by receiving a minimum voltage output from the oil pressure sensor. I would also assume that you are not reading the output of the sensor ..but the output of the PCM (ECM, etc.) as you probably are for all your dash outputs.

I don't think you're going to be able to do this without some serious and expensive work done to the dash.

From what I gathered from the posted Link to off road Fords, the Fords have a problem with the oil sender diaphram leaking causing a false reading. Chev Impala SS 94-95 have a diff. problem with the oil pressure gauge. It is a some or none gauge. It is not a true gauge that reads varying oil pressures. It is a idiot gauge if you will. The Impala guru's came up with a solution. Replace the stock 'on-off' oil sender with a truck articulated oil sender and the gauge then shows varying oil pressures.

My new Ford has the same dumb gauge which is really a light in gauge clothing. I am going to change it. You will have to go to a different gauge and sender which will read various pressures. You can "T" the fitting from the engine mount so that you can have both the ON/OFF sender/gauge and the actual oil pressure sender/gauge. You will have to power the new gauge as well. I'm going to do all of this, it's doable with not a lot of money.
