Lo!

I have a confirmed oil leak in my 95 Buick Lesabre 3800 V6 series 1. Car never used much oil (i.e. seemed to be full on the dipstick after 4k without requiring any makeup oil) and started using oil in the last few hundred miles before the end of the first rinse. I'm a few hundred miles from the end of the second Auto-Rx application and will start the 2k-3k rinse.

There is a lot of oil splattered around the passenger side engine compartment and seems to be coming from the bottom. I will need to clean it up a bit to get a clear idea of exactly where. Is this the location of the rear main seal? I'm reasonably intelligent but I'm not sure what I'm looking at half the time.

I believe the rear main seal is where the drive shaft comes out of the engine block?

I seem to be using around a quart of oil every 150 miles or so for the last thousand... Think there is any hope of the engine sealing or does this definitely sound like something seriously amiss? The engine purrs along like never before. My plan is to run the engine another 1k or 2k on the rinse (not that there is any Auto-Rx left after that leak...

) and hope that it starts to seal. Then take the car and checkbook to the garage and cry.

Thanks

My toyota did this on auto-rx. However after a while the seal quit leaking. I guess it was the old false seal thing. Give it time and it will hopefully reseal itself. My toyota had 230,000 at the time.
