Mixing Oil And Ethanol

Quote:
It's been touted as the alternative to oil, but after the country's largest ethanol producer went bankrupt America's biggest oil refiner is looking to invest in the renewable fuel.

VeraSun announced this week that Valero Energy of San Antonio Texas is interested in buying five of the company's ethanol plants.

I have a friend that works at one of those plants. Currently the plant is shut down until (hopefully) Valero Energy starts the plant back up. They haven't made any Ethanol for a few months and they are hoping to start up again and get everyone back to work.

The oil companies are betting on a economic recovery, eventually, and they will look good and make more money by having these assets. Imagine owning the whole production cycle of how gasoline is made.

You can Gouge every US citizen and then complain how you only made 500 billion last quarter to your congressmen.

The oil companies are our friends. They are here to help us .say this over and over till you believe it. Bankrupt the economy then buy it up cheap It is the plan. It is done all the time.

Monopoly capitalism ''.The taxpayer sends money into the blackhole of the banking industry no strings attached, we see big bonus for the upper management then the banks loan the money back to the taxpayers what a deal . I would like to get into that deal. And then the alking heads on TV try to make us happy about the deal.

The politicians in Washington are the true price gougers here. Don't blame oil, they are a legitimate business supplying a product you demand. If you truly hate the oil business, boycott their products.

However, your better strategy would be to vote for a president, and congress that truly understand the country's problems.

I didn't read your link, as I have read the stories out of several differnt papers over the last 4 days. I think it is great. You will see the true benefits to this in about 2 to 2-1/2 years time.

I hope so. At least the ethanol industry won't be asking for a Federal bailout now that "Big Oil" has come to the rescue.

You got to be kidding. Since when is OPEC a legitimate business, since when can we boycott their products, since when can a president and congress do anything about the foreign dictatorships' monopoly on oil supply?

They were simply lucky enough to have oil reserves under their belt.

Don't like it ?

Suck it up, and develop an alternative, using what you have the most of (dunno what that is).

You lot don't seem to worry too much about stuff when YOU have the upper hand.

Lots of NG here. Must be too expensive to get or distribute compared to oil. Not all that familiar with the process.

We could coal to liquid but also costly.

Something to be said about burning up other people's real oil in exchange for our green paper.

If you don't like gas power there are NG, electric and hydrogen options.

If we drill here we will be less dependant on foreign oil, produce good paying jobs and raise revenue for taxes.

And I always love it when people complain about oil companies getting breaks:
Quote:
Over the last three years, Exxon Mobil has paid an average of $27 billion annually in taxes. That's $27,000,000,000 per year, a number so large it's hard to comprehend. Here's one way to put Exxon's taxes into perspective.

According to IRS data for 2004, the most recent year available:

Total number of tax returns: 130 million

Number of Tax Returns for the Bottom 50%: 65 million

Adjusted Gross Income for the Bottom 50%: $922 billion

Total Income Tax Paid by the Bottom 50%: $27.4 billion

Conclusion: In other words, just one corporation (Exxon Mobil) pays as much in taxes ($27 billion) annually as the entire bottom 50% of individual taxpayers paid in 2004 (most recent year available), which is 65,000,000 people! Further, the tax rate for the bottom 50% was only 3% of adjusted gross income ($27.4 billion / $922 billion) in 2004, and the tax rate for Exxon was 41% in 2006 ($67.4 billion in taxable income, $27.9 billion in taxes).

And as any rational person knows, corporate taxes simply get passed on to the end user so if you want to "punish" the oil companies, you want to pay even higher gas prices.

Already am, just one with a moral compass. Don't like seeing the hard decisions being left to my children, when my generation are pi$$ing energy up the wall.

especially if you don't intend to ever pay the debt off, or are planning on gypping out by hyperinflating out of it.

If that's hard to comprehend, multiply it by 4,000 and see how comprehensible the number is...at least the interest is only 120 time $27B.

Sunoco To Begin Ethanol Production July 1

Quote:
Sunoco will begin producing ethanol in the former Miller Brewery next Thursday, according to Plant Manager Gary Center...

Last summer, Sunoco purchased the bankrupt Northeast Biofuels ethanol facility in the Town of Volney for $8.5 million in an auction arranged by U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Margaret Cangilos-Ruiz.

Sunoco is a petroleum company with 910,000 barrels per day of refining capacity, approximately 4,700 gas stations, 6,000 miles of pipelines, and 43 product terminals. The local plant is Sunoco’s first ethanol facility, said Center.

“The ethanol plant, at this point at full production, will produce 180 million gallons, or roughly 25 percent of Sunoco’s ethanol needs,” he added.

Makes sense if you're an oil company and need to purchase a large amount of ethanol to blend with your gasoline. Purchase your own ethanol plant and cut out the expensive middleman.
