Awe man...I know I shouldnt post another reply. But this will be my last for this thread unless used oil analysis are posted.
I mentioned his web site more than once, and that on his web site there are no motorcycle used oil analysis. I was only looking for the ones he claims the oils bit the dust.
I can absolutely be an idiot sometimes. I realize I’ve been a jerk here trying to pry out information in this tread. Was I unfair? Not IMO. But I have been a jerk about it. That said, I’ve done my homework, as I always do before opening my mouth. And Sunrah’s claimed “failures” are ONLY because the oil fell slightly out of grade. Wear numbers were not affected, and in fact looked better than some oils he recommended only cause they stayed perfectly in grade.
You cant fail an oil just because it falls slightly out of grade after hard use…there’s so much more to look at than a single line item. Even Blackstone labs confirms this on multiple reports posted in the motorcycle forum.
My personal proof? I just had a report done on my CR-V and Accord. The CR-V running 5w-20 Quaker State conventional fell out of grade but the wear numbers appeared like it was virgin oil. They were ridiculously low wear numbers. Blackstone made the comments, and said to “definitely run the oil all winter”. They did NOT say to dump it cause it was slightly out of grade.

Sunrah’s opinions *almost* always go AGAINST Blackstone recommendations to run an oil longer than the tested milage based a single line item reason of being out of grade OR *slightly* out of grade. I never called him out on that, because it was made clear to be his opinion. And it doesn’t hurt to dump it early…just adds cost. But cost is why everyone is trying auto and diesel oil, not motorcycle oil, right? Call me a moron, but I cant make sense of this.

I'm pretty sure that you are being ignored now. You shoulda turned down the volume a bit at the start. You may very well have had a point but the damage is done. Move on. My two cents'...

I think that many recommend "specific" application oils due to being a bit less than learned, concerning the actual formulations of lubricants.
Which is exactly what specific niche marketing is all about. Providing the less than learned consumer with a means to choose lubricants that fit the minimums of a battery of testing criteria geared towards that niche.
But when we look deeper, and gain a bit more knowledge, we find that the key to finding the best lubricant for the appication is most dependent on the synergism of the whole package. And there are many oils, that are not marketed towards a particular niche of service, that could easily meet the criteria of the specific application marketed products.
They simply were tweeked with a certain market in mind. And marketing is geared toward that niche.
And making blanket statements about using moto specific oils only, really isn't the best of advise.
Are we to assume that every MA MB certified (or rated) fluid on the market is the absolute best choice over any other PCMO or HDEO in all instances?
I find that train of thought lacking.

To elaborate, I said I consistently state to use an oil labeled for the application as a first piece of advice. Not to ONLY use those specific oils...as if saying all other oils will fail. I in fact said that I didn’t believe any oil made today would cause an issue in a motorcycle. But I do believe there are some better than others, and M/C oils have what we need, and leave out what we don’t, and keep possible issues at a minimum.
At no time have I ever said NOT to use ANY oil type or brand. EVER.
