Looking for a good synthetic to use based on type type of driving my vehicle sees. Car is a 2001 Jetta VR6 (2.8L 12v v6), w/ 75k. Currently no noticable oil consumption. Have been using Mobil 1 0w-40 in winter, and Mobil 1 Truck and SUV 5w40 in summer, 5k OCI.

Recently my driving habits have made a drastic change in that now the vehicle is seeing frequent short trips, as my commute is about 6 miles each way, with about 90% city / 10% highway use.

Currently I'm looking at using Mobil 1 0w-40, 5w30, possibly GC 0w-30, though I'd like to stick with Mobil 1. The manual suggests using an oil that is VW 502.00, 505.00 rated, but says it's possible to use a "high quality" 5w-40, or 5w30. Any suggestions?

I'd stick with the Mobil 1 0w40. BUT, GC 0w30 & Mobil 1 5w40 would both also work just as well.

With any of the oils from this trio of options, you & your Jetta will never know the difference.
