Anyone know what type of oil goes in pressure washer pumps? Is it the same oil as air compressors, or something different? I came across a bottle of oil for those, but it doesn’t specify what is special about it VS any other oil.

Non-Detergent SAE 30 oil is fine but NOT an SA. Those pistons can wear, so an SL would be ideal but SN is also good - need some anti-wear.

Mine failed from piston wear, so I blended up my own oil based on 50/50 PAO/POE with a boron based EP and strong anti-oxidants. It's been running for at least 10 years now with no problems.

I've replaced a lot of pumps for customers, usually they come with a sticker saying 30 ND or just SAE 30, but the last 3 or 4 I've done have come with a tag saying 90w or 75w90, including the pump I put on my own pressure washer. I'm currently on my second season with it running Redline 75w90 since I had some left over from doing the differential in my car. Seems good so far.
