My 2006 PT GT carries 12# oil pressure at idle and about 35-40# at wot on top grade OTC syn 5w/30.Its 100* here every day which is unusual for most of the country but normal here.I have some Royal Purple 10w/40 in my stash, should be a no brainer or have I missed something? I am a little leary of 5w/30 (still under warantee) under weather and driving conditions.I drive it like I stole it.Your thoughts please.

Thanks

If you wanted to stay with a XW-30 then GC would be the oil to use.

GC is Castrol 0W-30. It will be in a black bottle, and it will say European formula on the front, and "made in Germany" on the back somewhere usually near the bar code.

GC is a thick 30 almost a 40, and it is a great oil. GC also is good for all the seals on the engine.

Mobile can cause leaks on some engines.

If the Turbo run the oil through it then it is very important to use an oil that can handle the temperatures it will see within the turbo.

Mobile TDT 5W-40 or GC both are good oils to use with a turbo.

Many other oils are not good enough for a turbo.

That depends a lot more on the turbo. Not because it has a turbo.

OP you will be well served on continuing to use the synthetic 5W30 you are currently using. M-1, M-1EP, PP, PU, and QSUD are all good choices off the top of my head to use.

Boost currently tops out at 16lbs.I am starting to tune with my DS Predator and plan to ultimately have one of the tuning gurus write a custom tune to go to 18-20lbs peak and hold 16lbs.
It runs very strong with the mods and the pro tune is where I plan to stop. Dyno test show these pro tuners able to often wring out an additional 25-35 extra ponies at the wheels with the GT engine.
Currently runiing Valvoline VR1 10w/30.

Edit to add oil.

Contact Johan at Diablosport. He can email you a tune, you log it a bit and send the logs back and after you do that about 3 times you'll have a fantastic setup.

Works for donations, so you set the price, too!

VR1 10w30? Is that a conventional oil? I would never run conventional oil in a turbocharged gasoline engine.

If oil pressure got that low, I would use synthetic Xw40, that is what European manufacturers use in their turbocharged gasoline engines. Shell Rotella 5w40 is an excellent 5e40 oil for turbo engines.

Agreed. T'd PTs seem to like this stuff...

One can buy VR1 10w-30 in conventional or synthetic.

In my 3 GT's I use mostly Amsoil 0w-30, diesel 5w-30. I have also used Ultra 5w-30 Mobil 1 5w-30. currently am trying the 5w-40 T6 Rotella in them for the summer.

No issues. My 03 Gt has stage 1, 230 WHP and 285WTQ, has 120K miles and no problems. Cylinder head/cams nice and clean at 100K when I changed the o-ring gaskets for spark plug holes on valve cover and wrinkle painted it.

Remember you have the oil cooler so 30Wt should work good, and if you want the 5w-40 the T6 should work.

I would use a full PAO like the Amsoil Deisler periodically since
I feel it will clean anything in turbo bearing catridge.

M1 0w40. Where are you getting your oil pressure reading from? Im sure you have the normal oil/coolant heat exchanger so your oil temps will stay in the 195-215 range. On my 2.4L I see around 25lbs at idle, 40ish while cruising and wot.

For anyone that cares, the stock turbo is coolant and oil cooled.

"Mobile" is a city in Alabama
