Anybody have a connection to law enforcement vehicles to know what type and brand of oil they use. I can't think of an engine that demands more than a police car or an ambulance
Any thoughts ????

I worked with a local Public Works and I was often in the shop and sometimes helped compile the work orders. The law enforcement vehicles got 5W30 NAPA conventional with 5,000 mile OCIs. The ambulances got 15W40 NAPA conventional with 5,000 mile OCIs. Both got NAPA Gold filters. All heavy equipment got 15W40 NAPA conventional with NAPA, CAT, John Deere or Donaldson filters depending on application.

Around here it's bulk 5W30 SN+ lowest bidder. 5K OCI.

My hometown local PD, Fire, emergency search and rescue, and local (not county) plow trucks use/used (last time I was in the shop) Kendal Super DXA 15w40 in everything, from city cars to cop cars to plow trucks, all drawn from either totes with a pump or 55 gallon drums on a drum caddy also with a pump. Absolutely everything got bulk 15w40 conventional. Filters were a mix of Car Quest, Parts Plus and Napa depending on the application. HD diesel filters were mostly Car Quest Baldwin filters, passenger car police and light truck were wither Napa Pro Select or Parts Plus value filters.

There was a Mobil 1 commercial claiming that a taxi fleet owner converted Crown Vics that had records showing the use of Mobil 1.

The truth is likely that it's unnecessary. The biggest issue will be excessive idling, which is handled with short OCIs. They rarely will be conducting high speed chases or anything that's remotely tough on motor oil other than idling all the time to keep the A/C running.

The one thing that's different is the use of special police tires. For some reason, Goodyear Eagle RS-A in a version specifically for police are the standard in the US, along with another Firestone tire. Looked it up, and it's the Firehawk GT Pursuit.

On the other hand, some cop cars are operating 24/7 which is probably a good thing for a engine. Here in Chicago, they all use big Chevy Tahoes that are known to flip over when turning tight corners.

Normal service is 10K so 5K seems reasonable for severe service

Those tahoes are slowly disappearing, it's now mostly Taurus and Explorer utility and a few vic's scattered around

There was ONE 2014 Dodge Charger prototype running around, But not sure if still in service ??

Most counties and cities replace the units often. 100k on a cop car is rare.

Our Crown Vics run a bulk 15w40 with 3k OCI's. The Hemi Chargers are running either 0w20 or 5w20...whatever it says on the oil cap. Our shop changed the oil for the first time in one of the Chargers back in 2011 and used the 15w40. Before the day was over it had thrown a CEL. When the shop hooked up their Snap On diagnostic scanner it stated "improper oil viscosity."

Saw a P71 for (re)sale with maintenance records. 9k OCIs. I have to imagine they came to that number... with analysis.
