Ive got a new to me Hitachi air compressor, model EC 12. First thing Id like to do it change the oil. Attached photo shows that it requires 5W-30, FS. Im wondering if I need to buy compressor oil or would any old FS that meets the spec be OK? I have loads and loads of FS 5w-30 lying around.

I live in New England, and will use this compressor in cold weather/winter.

TYIA!

I don't see it being an issue if the seals/gaskets are worn maybe you'll see some seepage. Otherwise should be fine.

did you typo the pic says 5w50, also seems to show 15w40 is ok for warmer weather.

If I am going to keep something long term and it is important to me, I use the mfg. recommended product, in this case hitachi 19210b is a special non-detergent oil designed for air compressors and reduces carbon build up, valve cleanliness, etc..

My 45 year old compressor is still going strong on it's recommended Mobil Rarus 427 ashless compressor oil changed annually.
