Oil for a Classic Car

Hello,

I have an old '59 Ford Fairlane with a 292 y block. What is the appropriate oil to use. I have been using Pennzoil 10w30, changed every year (about 1500 miles) Should I use a straight weight oil i.e. SAE 30? What about a heavier 10w40 or 15w40 diesel oil? Any additives? Engine runs great with 89,000 miles and has never been rebuilt. Thank you for your input.

Oil technology had increased dramatically since that car was built. No need for switching weights depending on the season. If it where me I would stick with a quality 10w30 motor oil and call it good. I don't have any reference material for a car of that vintage, but if they asked for a 40wt in the summer, I might consider a 10w40 for summer and 10w30 for winter.

Any name brand oil that meets the OEM weight spec will work great.

Well, I run Pennzoil 10w30 in my 1956 Y-Block and it has almost 92K original miles on it. Runs like a fine Swiss watch.
