I was talking with my local Harley dealer people and to my surprise they recommended Red Line 20W60 along with Red Line trans & primary chain oils. This was a shocker!. They never pushed the Harley stuff on me? any input.

If I could find some 20w-60 locally I'd try it but not gonna spend the additional $ on shipping...

Thicker and thicker isn't necessarily the best way to go. If it were true you could throw a few bottles of STP oil treatment and get the equivalent of say 50w-200 oil but it wouldn't be any better.

The best thing would be to use a quality synthetic of the proper weight.

This is exactly what I use...except I went with the 20W/50 which I liked better than the 20W/60. I feel this is the very best protection available and my transmission has never been so quiet.

2008 Roadking Classic and 2011 Electra GLide Limited...
I have used Amsoil 20w-50 in all three holes; 20w-50 in the engine with 75-110w Gear oil in transmission, and Redline MTL in the Primary; Schaeffers 7000 20w-50 in engine; Valvoline VR-1 Synthetic 20w-50 in engine; SYN3 all three holes.

All of them seem to thin out around the 2500 mile mark. No UOA to prove this and maybe it's just me, but the bike starts to sound noisier. Maybe it's just the Texas heat during the summer. When I get home from AF early July gonna service the bike and run REdline 20w-50 in engine, Amsoil 75-110w gear oil in transmission and either Redline MTL or Rotella in the Primary. This fluid combo is gonna run me to Sturgis and back this year!
