Hi all,

Long-time viewer, first-time poster. Just purchased a GM Certified 2010 Buick LaCrosse CXL with the 3.0 LF1. Being it was a CPO vehicle, it comes with GM's 2-year maintenance plan, but it is tied to the OLM being at 20%. So I'm planning on doing oil changes at about the 60% point and then take it in for the free one at 20%.

My question: any owners of LF1s have any recommendations on what oil to use? Only parameters are that it be a Dexos-approved oil. Thanks!

My L 3800 engine says 5w30, really any good brand name synthetic or conventional will work...I went back to conventional oil it.

The 3800 SII in my '04 Impala has gotten a steady diet of MaxLife 5W-30, though I'm considering checking out Mobil Super High Mileage. Absolutely amazing engine, and still running like brand new.

My concern with the LF1 in the LaCrosse is the fact that it is DI, and I've seen on many GM forums that I belong to that quite a few DI GM engines (specifically the 3.6, which is a cousin of the LF1) have had timing chain failures due to extended OCIs. Just want to cover my bases...
