Most of the aftermarket ZDDP additives end up fighting the built-in add paks from the refiners. The end product is usually less well suited to the task than the straight oil ...
I have about 20 bottles of ZDDP + from when I used to blend my own for competition engines. But since API SM, it has been a down hill situation.
When the refiners dropped their built-in ZDDP levels, they compensated with other additives which, in some cases, give better results... All of this is one reason oil prices went up. Cheap additives were replaced by slightly more expensive alternatives ...
And Chevron Supreme is pretty good oil. In many cases better than boutique oils ...
