This is a link to a hydraulics handbook from Parker. Even though it’s for hydraulic systems, it still directly applies to oil systems within an engine. It has some very good information on filtration, contaminates, and solutions.

Catalog #3 Handbook of hydraulic Filtration is what you want, you will have to download each chapter separately, but it’s worth the time.
There is also an automotive filter catalog.
I should note, I don't work for Parker and I'm not pushing Parker products, I just think they do an excellent job of educating their customers or potential customers.
