You used the term "our" when speaking of Fram. Just asking, are you a Fram representative?

I am not challenging anything you are saying, but just curious about the source of the info, thanks.

Looks like he works for Fram, at least according to his post on this thread: https://bobistheoilguy.com/forums/ubbthreads.php/topics/3310160/Fram_air_filters

Get a Tough Guard then. The Tough Guard is so good IMO I see little reason to use an Ultra unless you are going to do long OCI's like over 10k.

And his post that is being quoted has been deleted. Very interesting.

In pictures on WalMart.com the Fram XG2 is now rated for 10,000 miles instead of 15,000 miles on the 2 Fram Ultra XG2 I have on hand.

Why such a short oil change interval on full synthetic oil?

You could consider the Bosch filters (made by Purolator), as it seems there haven't been any reports of torn media on those for some reason. It could be a whole different media type used in the Bosch like that is resistant to tearing.

Fram's website still shows 15,000 OCI rating on the Ultra (XG series). I think I'd trust Fram before Walmart.

TG still rated at 10,000 mile OCI.

EG rated at 5,000 OCI.

If the OP never visited this website, he would use up his existing stash of filters and his vehicles would not care or notice one bit.

Unless you're short tripping or only towing, why run a syn oil for 3-4k miles only? You're not fully utilizing your oil or filters.

What's up with that? Did a Moderator whack it? I certainly hope not...

Jay (aka Motorking) outwardly speaks of his direct employment at Fram. He has shown full disclosure and hides nothing. That he is proud of his product is no different than my pride in Ford stuff (when I worked there) or the stuff my company makes now (HVAC industry).

There are always pros and cons to every design. Most any product line offers a good/better/best line-up because there is always are market for each tier.

I have yet to see any data whatsoever that shows filter brands able to be distinguised in macro data analysis. Even tiered products don't reveal any shift outside normal variance in "normal" use in terms of wear.

My journey through the lube and filter worlds have come full circle. I used to use everyday stuff, then I became a snob, and now I'm back to everyday decent products. My job in data analysis helps me understand that the VAST majority of decent products affords a great ROI.

I would use the OCOD in a heartbeat if they were the cost leader on the shelf; they are not in my area. But their TG is one of the best offerings for the price point, and I'll take that fiber end cap with no hesitation whatsoever.

Don't know whether your vehicles are domestic or imported, but take a look at Baldwin and Hastings filters for an excellent American made product. Both companies have nice web sites.

Am I over reacting?

Thanks

If you like to get a good filter in the Pure 1 price range then Fram Tough Guard is a good choice, it's available at Walmart for less than $6.

If you want top of the line spin on oil filter for not much more $ then Fram Ultra at Walmart for less than $10 is the best buy.

I hate recommending Walmart, but nobody else has lower everyday price on oil, filter ...

Our Kawsaki Mule gets a Roki for its OCI's. Very good filter. First type I cut open too. Lol.

Plenty of data here on BITOG to show that there is nothing wrong with Fram filters, except for strong prejudice against them. My only complaint is they are a little pricey compared to say a Wix or NAPA Gold. If you can get them with a rebate, great. Otherwise, I go with the Wix, but I buy them as NAPA Gold when they are 50% off.

I've never tried a Purolator. And with the numerous posts that have been made showing blowouts, this isn't the time that I will be trying them. Perhaps a year or two from now when it looks like this is behind them.
