I am a Oil geek.
I decided to do my own little experiment.

First up:
Crossland (made in the EU) ERR3340 purchased 05/05/08 from "autopartswarehouse".com $10.95 200 miles in service.

Second up:
LandRover ER3340 (Made in poland) Purchased 04/08/08 from LandRover of Portland,OR $15.75 200 miles in service.

Crosland is filter on the left of all the pics.
LandRover filter is filter on the right of all pics.

Looks like the Crosland came pre rusted, by observation it had a considerable amount of water lying in the base of the filter, enough to leave a spot on the element base about 3/4inch from my perspective. With enough time to rust the steel housing and leave a considerable amount of loose rust deposits. The 66 pleat 5-1/2 inch lengh crosland looks to be well constructed but seems to have a really weak bypass spring. As the rust is concerened.
Whether this is a Crosland manufacturers issue or a shipper issue or a US distributer issue it has made my desicion to purchase there products easy.(never again will I use their filters)

The LandRover Product looks clean, well built with a heaver bypass spring, and with its
80 pleat 4-1/2 inch size looks to have pretty much the same amount of filter media.
I have yet figured out how to remove the end caps to string the media out for a precise measurement.

Notice the white swab, took from the inside of each filter.

I have a bosch 72198(LandRover fit) from autopartswarehouse".com
and a Bosch 33129(isuzu 3.2 Fit) from a local Schucks. both are made in the US but they have different colared print. The APW all white print. The Local Schucks White, black and red.I will be doing the same cut open look at here shortly.

Note: I have been buying parts from the APW for years for my Montero, the Nippon Filter and it comes with a sealed end cap which some one told me years ago it was to keep the filter clean and free from contamination from over seas shipping. looks like there might be some merit to this.

Please feel free to decifer the Pics below for I am not an expert in any sense, I just know what I see.And by all means if you want to cut some of your own filters open please post them.

more to come.
