Oil filters from lube shops... how good are they??

I have seen some filters from local quick lubes that had really cheap ink with "Made in China" or "Made in Taiwan" and that was barely readable.

When I worked at Allied Tire, the filters had a plain white can with "Trust" written on the side. Wix supplied us with them.

Tires plus gets their stuff from Champion Labs.

Cars get whatever is available at the local parts store if the filter type isn't stocked at the auto repair shop.

Kind of reminds me of the days of generic beer ... white can with the word "BEER" in black letters on it. Maybe they should just put "OIL FILTER" on these generic filters.

when i was a kid, while were on vacation out in Idaho, i saw a brand of wine..plain bottle, label just said CHEAP WINE.
Something like this:

of course next to them was a box of wine glasses with "CHEAP WINE GLASS" etched into them.

if you go to Pennzoil website and look up oil filters, you'll get a list that shows purolator,and performax filter numbers. look on top and you'll see that you are on Purolator's website. Purolator is making QS and Pennzoil/Performax oil filters

Look at the performax and you'll see that they are identical to purolators. SAME

I bought some 14477 Chinese equivs called "Everguard" or something like that on Epay and cut one apart. Looked like a tank inside. Sometimes, when the "copycats" get into things they overbuild at first so the can get some marketshare and then start to cut corners. There were no shortcuts in the filter. Metal endcaps, and a good looking ADV. But, that could have changed the next week.

I've got some Superflows or something that are the same. They even have the same part number as the Purolator and the box said Purolator.

Reason I bought them.....Purolator was about the last brand to change the small block Chevy filter to the "new" size which is a little smaller in diameter and I've had the new ones leak from the seal on two different engine blocks (AC Delcos). The last time I went to buy some (always carry an old size filter with me) the Purolator had finally changed and I was showing the guy at the counter. He said he had some old jobber filters in back that he was about to give to one of the local quick change places and they were the larger size so I got all he had. My two oil analyses on the 1969 Camaro in that forum say they're good filters.

Performax same as Pennzoil, and Pennzoilwebsite/filter guide uses Purolator webpage. Performax and Purolator filters identical!!

The garage where I have work done do a lot of changes for their customers. Years ago they started using filters that match the make of the car for the most part. Motorcraft on Fords, AC for GM's, Mopar for Chrysler and so on. If not available they use a Napa. They told me it was to cover their rears if a filter failed.

I remember when most service stations used the Group 7 filters that were made by Purolator.
