I have an OEM hex filter wrench, but it's stuck to the oil filter. How do I remove it? I can drill holes into the oil filter then poke with a screw driver, which would give me enough grip to pull on the oil filter. But how do I get the grip to pull on the oil filter wrench?

I assume the filter is off the car? What size filter? If the filter is 3/4-16 threads you are in luck, just thread piece of 3/4 NPT pipe in. If not reach in with some small Channel locks. Or hold it with a vise or bigass vise grips.

If you don't have a bench vise its going to be hard. I've had a few filters that has become stuck in those socket type filter wrenches. I usually lock the filter in the vise and whack the wrench with a block of wood. Sometimes trying to turn the socket back the way it got stuck helps and sometimes not.

Heat wrench up with a torch to expand it.

Spray some PB blaster etc alomd the edges to let it penetrate and loosen it.

Bash the filter with a big hammer to deform it and loosen it.

is it the cap style? i had a whole assortment of those as well as the other style of filter wrenches. i would put my ratchet on the cup style one and then grab the base of the filter with another style and turn them in opposite directions. usually it would make a huge mess, but i had my wrench back.

If its still on the car, put a long extension in it and push/pull side to side (I assume its the kind that goes on a ratchet)

If its not still on the car, hold the cap end in your hand and hit the filter on concrete (side ways - not driving it on further).

If filter with stuck "wrench" is off the car.....put filter in your bench vise. Then take a hammer and tap the top lip of the wrench (which I assume is basically the oversized socket type) in the direction that it needs to go (i.e. off the filter).
