Oil filter suggestion

Thanks for the input, everyone! I think I'm going to go with the PureOne and once it's out of warranty, I'm sure I'll go with the extended OCI's with Mobil 1/PP and either the Mobil 1 or K&N filter. That seemed to worked with my last vehicle.

To answer your question though, my local dealership charges about $50 (after taxes, disposal shop fees etc...) for the 0w-20 oil change. The price difference between that and having my mechanic do it isn't that huge, but my mechanic is within walking distance of where I live, so it's just more convenient.

Good filter choice. You may notice on the maintenance minder screen, oil filter only appears every second OCI. If you are the adventurous type, you may wish to consider a filter designed for 15,000 miles such as the M1, FU, etc. and change your filter every other oil change.

Well I just checked and the guy was correct! Most Napa Silvers are on sale for 2 bucks and change and most Napa Golds are on sale for 3 bucks and change.

Even the expensive 10 dollar Napa Gold cartridge filter for the wife's KIA is on sale for 5 bucks! I just reserved 4.

Honeywell sold off their consumer automotive group in 2011, including Fram. Not sure how that affects their industrial businesses though, but Honeywell and Fram are no longer connected. They kept some of their braking and turbo businesses though. They still own Garrett, which has a large portion of the turbo market. Their website for automotive parts only says they still own the Garrett and Bendix brands.

I did see that on the maintenance minder. I'm 99 percent positive the dealership put a new one in after they changed the factory fill. Spending an extra $12-$15 on oil filters each year is worth the piece of mind, at least to me, for a car I hope to keep for 10 years or so.

Go to your local Walmart and get a 5 quart jug of Mobil 1 5W-20. They also have Purolator oil filters at Walmart as well.

The filter for the Honda Civic of that year is the L14610.

All this should cost you less than $30 and you are getting good oil and a good filter.

I guess you missed that used oil analysis with 7500 miles on a puro classic with less than 1 insols too.

I pretty much stick with Mobil 1 0w20 on my Tacoma. The manual specifies 0w20 synthetic and 5k OCIs. I sometimes go out towards 7k if there are highway miles involved.

I had a good UAO with that an a Mobil 1 filter. But am thinking of switching to see if the PS or Amsoil filter will be as good or better.

My goal is to have the best filtration in an OCI, not to necessarily extend the OCI. For me the absolute cost difference is the equivalent of a couple of Starbucks, and not worth worrying about.

Does anyone have an opinion on whether the PS or Donaldson would filter better for this oil and OCI?

I'm surprised Toyota only recommends 5K mile OCIs with full synthetic. Doesn't Toyota have a real OLM yet?

Nope. The light simply turns on every 5K miles. I think that's the case even with the newer ones spec'ed for 0W-20 where they recommend 10K miles oil change intervals.

Yeah, that's the same basic schedule even back in 2005. So how does Toyota tell the owner to change oil at 10K when using full synthetic when Toyota says to use full synthetic?

greenhat- I would suggest reading up on the P1 filter line for Hondas before issuing glowing recommendations for the P1 filter. For the 14610 the filtering efficiency is 99% at 40 (forty) microns-a Fram orange can has that beat by a mile and a half as Fram's efficiency rating is at 20 mics

Especially since my little 4-cylinder takes 6 quarts of Synthetic oil. My wife's Honda Odyssey V-6 takes 4.5
