How long can you expect an oil filter to stay usable under "typical" garage conditions. Is this an item you can stock up on, or does the media degrade sitting there over time. Is this a time limit that is so great it shouldn't be worried about? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Build a second room or large closet....just for oil, oil filters and auto related products and tools....with a big pad lock on the door.

+1, but my wife hates the filter stash in the closet.

I keep mine under the bed, she never vacums there

I have a case of Valvoline VO25s(ChampLabs PH2835) from '00. By chance I just happen to cut one open today for S&Gs.

Looks fine all the rubber is still pliable. You wouldn't know it has been around for 12 years by looking at it.

The open case has been sitting on the basement floor the entire time.

In the micro-wave?

Toaster oven is better, it's a dry heat.

Why not liquid nitrogen ... could freeze them and yourself so 500 years from now you could use a classic built oil filter ... if there are any cars left.

My wife does not like my oil and filter stash in the basement. So I took a Wix filter out and put it in the display cabinet. THAT did not go over so well. She is now fine with my storage area in the basement.... Shockingly, the oil filter is still in the display cabinet in our living room. I am not going to move it. She seems to have forgotten about it...

Sounds like a good use for a fancy china cabinet!

I have a 14yr old box of Group7's, which are purolator white box filters.
I've been using them off & on for a while, so far so good.. the drainback valve doesn't mean anything to me, since the filter sits vertical.
