Oil Filter outlet/pipe stripped

Anyone ever had the filter housing pipe/nipple get cross threaded or stripped over the course of years. If so what is the solution to this. Can the part be re threaded, housing replaced, permanent attachment placed on it to replace old one similar to a bypass hook up like Amsoils??

What is the common practice???

The proper thread file can work wonders. On a big thread like that, you might even be able to clean it up with a triangle file.

Most of those things have a hex at the base. Put a 6 point socket and a big bar on it. If it comes out, head for the boneyard with it.

I have had good luck with Loc Tite Thread Repair. Last resort in this case.

What kind of car? some models have a pipe like fitting that can be changed or the mount can be replaced is it a mitsibishi with an aluminium housing?

Actually, it is a Mitsubishi 3.0L V6, not sure if aluminum housing as I have not actually looked at it in years. Can do the oil change without ramps (difficult to get this one on ramps) and housing cannot be seen, cannot crawl under car, too low. Filters go on hard and last one I scresed it on ( will not screw on by hand) and removed it and saw several metal slivers of thread but don't know if from the filter or housing. Screwed on much easier the second time. If the housing is getting stripped or is already bad at some point a filter will not be able to be tightened and some other measure will need to be taken. Will change filter brands next time an dhope that works.

Check with the dealer parts counter and see if it has a removable oil filter base. If it does, buy a new gasket and remove the base and inspect the threads closely. If the threads are damaged, replace the base with a new one. If not, replace old one with a new gasket. You don't want to lose the engine oil due to damaged threads.

What's this in? My 3.0 (92) has a removable filter base which allows a proprietory sandwich adapter to be added for the Stealth/GT-3000. The filter sits @ 8 o'clock with the timing belt end being 12 o'clock ..although other models had it elsewhere. Most of the "moparibishis" that I've seen with it have it this way.

Well, I'm unsure of all years ..but the the 92 and a few other ..that's how the oil cooler was integrated. I tried a couple of times to get one ..cause all you had to do is buy a gasket and unbolt the filter mount ..sandwich the "sandwich" and voila~. The block was identical to my Caravan's and it appeared to be a triangle mount.

You should be able to see it easily with the filter off. Again, I don't know about all years.
