My 2011 Prius takes the smaller "A6" style cartridge element filters.

I noticed that the Toyota replacement filters from the dealer have very little glue on the ends of the element to keep the filter together. However, the filter has no problems with rigidity.

On the other hand, the Fram cartridge filter has a significant amount of glue (the entire end of each element is covered) on each end of the element to help the element maintain its rigidity and shape.

The Fram filter was about $6.50 at Walmart, while the Toyota filter was $4.95 at the dealer, on sale.

I bought two of the Toyota filters for now, due to price. Has anyone else noticed that Fram is using a lot of glue on some of their cartridge filters?

I used to only buy Fram Tough Guards and once in awhile cut them open. I found that some were over glued, and some barely had enough so the cardboard endcaps would separate. I now purchase Pure 1's & Mobils because of the better quality and the Pure 1's are cheaper than the Frams.
