Oil filter for turbo engines?

So the carquest premium is the best choice? What about filters that the bypass is at the top and not the dome? Are those better?
You're asking for a Toyota, which doesn't specify an oil filter with a base end bypass valve. What's the mounting orientation of this (spin-on?) filter?

It is horizontal
Use a good synthetic motor oil and keep the oil changed at less than recommended intervals and there shouldn't be any debris to worry about with respect to where the bypass valve is located. And keep the RPM down until the oil warms up to keep the filter out of bypass.

I am. I'm doing 5k intervals with Pennzoil ultra platinum. I think I'm skipping the free oil change at dealership. It's an hour away and also don't want to sit there for an hour or more waiting on them. However to maintain lifetime power train warranty I'll have to take it to a local place but one of my best friends works there and everyone knows me so they Always take care of me

Ah, another thread where we have members and an OP that do not understand what a positive displacement pump is............

To the OP, I assure you, flow, in no way, shape or form, is a concern. Like ZERO.

Nothing wrong with Denso made Toyota filters. Same with any of the PG variants. I believe the Mobil 1 filter for your car is also PG made (I may be wrong on that, but I think it is.)

Oh I'll be the first to admit I'm not expert by any means lol. I do appreciate all the responses as it helps me learn. Just want to make sure I'm doing what I can to take care of the vehicles. I always change oil at 5k miles but I don't mind spending a few more dollars for better stuff.

Absolutely. Everyone has to start somewhere. Good on you for posting and asking the questions.

I use this filter on a 2021 4 runner v6

Maybe the wife will like the thought of dealer service since the car is new and expensive. A dealer oil change will show up on Carfax and on the Toyota service record forever.

So does the place I use locally. She isn't a fan of sitting at the dealership for an hour waiting for an oil change.

Carquest Premium is a very good filter. I use the Purolator ONE on my Ford 3.5L Turbo. Very good efficiency and seems well built. I've seen both of these filters cut open and they look exactly the same. Built by the same company? The filter world seems to be constantly changing and is hard to keep up with.

The old Carquest Premium filters were built by Purolator, but the new Carquest Premiums are not . They are built under Premium Guard Inc. (PGI).

What current issues with Fram are you concerned about? I was actually looking at them given the recent reviews I'm seeing of their filters - though the reviews are a bit older I suppose.

I typically have been going with OEM ACDelco. I liked the Purolator I saw at Walmart, but read some not so nice stuff on here about them. I feel like no matter what filter you choose, there's never a good consensus on it being good or bad.

The 10K mile rated extended use filters made under Premium Guard Inc (Carquest Premium, MicroGard Select, STP XL, Premium Guard Extended Life, etc) have a pretty solid consensus of being "good" ... more so than anything else right now.

Thanks. I've been trying to research filters for a few months now on this site and YouTube and so much mixed reviews. Hadn't even really looked at Microguard. They're at O'Reilly's right? I'm due for an oil change in about a month, so I'll probably pick it up. Or maybe an STP XL, as Autozone is more convenient for me.

Are their air and cabin air filters good as well? Recently tried buying a supertech cabin air filter and was very disappointed. Returned it.

Yes, the MicroGard Select is at O'Reilly's. It's the gray colored can and rated to 10K miles. The STP XL is comparable.

Yes…….they are the best quality I’ve found
It’s about the manufacturer, the the actual sticker on the can.
Was rather bummed to see this filters quality surpass that of the AMSOIL filter

Whats the filtering abilities of the K&N filters? Who makes them? They don't seem to be talked about alot here.
They were made by Champion Labs at one time but they are free to go to whomever they want to & I'm not certain who may currently be part of their manufacturing of oil filters. I think they have sourced outside of Champ labs, on some filters, over the last few years as well. Seems most of these posts below are Amazon discounts or clearances since K&N seems to be wildly expensive at retail & most likely why it doesn't get much fanfare. I was going to buy one on a combo oil deal but they didn't have it in stock.

Here's the most recent Champion Labs

This one looks different though.

Here it's suggested that HiFlo manufactures oil filters for K&N
