Howdy!

I have always used a good synthetic and Fram Ultra Guard for longer OCIs in my other vehicles... but I just bought a 2013 Focus ST, which is a turbo engine using 5w-30.

What filter would be best for 7,500 OCIs? Would a high efficiency filter like the Fram Ultra Guard limit oil flow too much for hard driving?

No.

The ford filter is under $4 at Walmart and Amazon. If worried about plugging just change and add a pint of new oil. 6-7 bucks for piece of mind

Nice car! I've been using the Fram Ultra for over 50,000 miles, no issues.

How do you like that 2nd gear pulll at 2500?

I drive 110 miles every day in my ST, about to hit 60,000 miles. Let me know if you have any questions.

Well I would love the second gear pull IF my second gear worked. It grinds and doesn't synch up about 20% of the time I go to shift it. [censored] near had an accident due to it. Love the rest of the car though!

There is ZERO chance of that oil filter "plugging up" in Texas weather, even for 15,000 miles. Maybe if he saw a LOT of short trips at -40*f, but that's different.

I'd have no problem using the motorcraft, fram tough guard, or fram ultra filters.

In the one I had I ran the appropriate Motorcraft filter and either M1 5w30 or PP 5w30 synthetics. It seemed like it liked the M1 a little better, based on the 23,000 miles I had it. As it is, if you're going with a shorter OCI just use the Motorcraft 5w30 Synthetic Blend. Even that had good UOAs with 10k in the engine on it.

In the turbo ST engine or the normal Focus engine? I haven't seen solid answers on OCI for the turbo focus, but I figured I'd stick to 7500 just to be safe.

Fram Ultras use microglass media which is both higher efficiency and higher flowing than cellulose offerings. So it would be the best choice for high performance engines that value efficiency, and flow.

2014 Focus ST here. Mobil 1 w/Motorcraft filters every 5,000. When the warranty's up, I may switch to Amsoil or Redline & Wix.

Odd in the uk here the focus st came witha volvo 5cylinder. I think 2015 onwards they went to a 2.0 engine
