True. I find it suspicious though that the only authorities advocating the use of synthetic during break in are...... the synthetic oil makers.

Can't find much from engine makers, except Cummins and Briggs & Straton that both specifically recommend not using synthetic during break in.

In any case, just seems like a good idea to keep the factory fill in (the oil the engine designers have spec'd) during break in, which is the first 1,000 miles for Ford.

Yeah...my '13 Tacoma 2.7L engine has 0w-20 synthetic from the factory. Syn comes from the factory in most Toyotas these days....as well as many other manufacturers.

Interesting though...Toyota OCI with syn is 10K in many of their vehicles...but still 5K in the trucks...even with syn. I can only guess they feel like the trucks may be under severe service duty and are playing it safe with a 5K OCI.

I put Amsoil synthetic in my Honda at 3000 and it still runs great. I don't see any reason to postpone using synthetic.

The Toyota oil is not Mobil 1. It is made by ExxonMobil to Toyota's criteria.

And yes, their oil filters appear to suck.

Which means Mobil probably uses Mobil 1 0w20, but with a different additive package, to get a slightly-diiferent result.

Really??? This is silly, go ahead and waste your money on filters and oil. Remember when you have an issue make sure you show your receipts because toyota may not support you. Also, make sure that your comparing apples to apples, because the toyota is cartage and not the screw on filter. Good luck, because you are wasting your money. Testing by a company trying to sell you something is like having a taste test from Coca Cola, Coca Cola will always win when they are conducting the test. Come on statistics can always be manipulated to meet the needs of who ever is conducting the test. I am sure aimsoil is great, but I have never had an issue with toyota oil filter, if it wasn't that good they wouldn't use it. I just think this is silly!!!

If you will take a moment to go look at the VOA's for the products in question you'll note that they are quite different.

It's pretty well known from this forum and other forums that Toyota filters turned to junk after they started using a 3rd-party supplier in Thailand. (And I'm not saying you should use Amsoil. I don't care as long as it isn't junk. Personally I like M1 or PureOne.)

Okay. I guess it's common knowledge oil god!!! I will keep buying my inferior product even though my wife's corrola got 270k, my Camry has 131k, and our new Camry has 31k. I guess there junk. Maybe I should just not use a filter at all. Marketing can fool a lot of people but the results lie with in experience.

It's true that Toyota filters don't have the best filtration, but they are at least not restrictive. I've seen a few collapsed aftermarket filters due to restriction. Amsoil filters also failed in some toyota applications due to restrictions.
