I think this will go well here.

I need a cap wrench for my 2010 Outback 3.6R. Factory filter is 15208AA031. I can't find size specs for the filter and I'm not sure how accurately I could measure it (like 65 v. 67 for some caps).

Any suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks,

Adam

I've always found that the most accurate and expediant way to find a cap wrench was to take a filter to an auto supply store (or use a boxed filter at the store)and test fit the available display wrenches to the appropriate filter.

You shouldn't have to pay more than ~$6.00 for a wrench...there are some ripp-off prices on these items at some stores.

Although I found that some of these $6 wrenches are junk if they're plastic. They would tend to deform and not actually turn the filter if the filter was on pretty tight. This was the case with our C300 oil filter housing. I ended up having to spend a little more and get a metal cap wrench for it.

Good point, of course. Knowing the size, however, I was able to buy a blue point wrench from Snap On for 7.60 shipped. I looked at auto zone and the same size was 7.99, special order. So, I beat shopping in store by a few cents! And, possibly, saved the annoyance of not being able to pick one off the shelf.

Get the adjustable one from Lisle. It took off my hydraulic oil filter from a Bobcat with no trouble. This filter was round with no flats on the end. Look on my thread about HF end cap wrenches.

not a fan of cap filter wrenches I like the giant Tong looking oil filter pliers. The only problem is you dent the can on some of the super cheap flimsy ones if you arent careful.

Denting is my problem. Appaarently subaru oem are pretty thin.

They had to order mine, took two days to get it. Mine is 76 MM with 14 flats.

oil filter cap wrench work the best. I have one too to use it with OEM filter.. It make the job alot easier..

It is 64mm. It fit 64mm toyota oem oil filter, and Honda OEM oil filter.

my oem subaru are thick.. I'm using the black TR filters on my fb25. of course I remove mine by hand since I dont gorilla tight them on. It's also alot easier to get leverage on them on top of the engine.

Normally I hand tighten new filters and use whatever to take off old. But, these are a tight fit for me.

I prefer the 3 finger claw tool over the cap wrenches myself. I think I paid 15 for my craftsman. Its the same design but slightly different dimensions than the bluepoint. Some of the guys at work have tried the OEM ones and ended up throwing them away. Why are you guys concerned about denting the filter on removal?
