Ok,before you get things in your mind,DONT! I went to my local Walmart very early this morning. While there I had an idea.I went to the oil filter section and did the blow/suck test on MC FL-400s filters.I'm sure the people monitoring the security cameras thought I was sick, disturbed,or just add your own thought in the blank _________.

After doing this to 8 filters only 1 of the 8 failed (I think?) When I blew into them they were very restrictive. When I pulled air (sucked) they were a little bit restrictive and whistled. All except for 1. This 1 that failed the test, you could hear air go through it and come out and never whistled. It was like blowing/sucking on a straw. So,i'm thinking it might be a bad ADBV????

Being i'm a pipefitter by trade (32 years exp.)I can make a test rig to do this test with compressed air. But,being i'm disabled now I can't afford to buy a lot of filters to do the test.If anyone is interested in making a test rig and needs any advice or can improve on my idea as to how to make the test rig, just PM me.

I am sure the security people where like what the heck is this guy doing. giving an oil filter mouth to filter ? ha ha ha ha ha ha seems like you have a good idea there with the pipes. my only concern with the original test is what you might be inhaling when you suck air in from the filter.

I have Neuropathy in my hands so the rubber gloves won't help and with the face mask I can't get my lips through the mask. What am I to do?

Not a problem if you are fully protected, because one sight of an orange can of death and you know where it's going!

I know to stay away from the OCOD!

Seriously, the 1 filter that had air go through it and out of it,seems kind of odd. That's why I stated the ADBV could be defective. Someone needs to look into this a bit farther, but in a way where you don't have to give an oil filter CPR.

I don't think this is a valid test...
The ADBV uses the oil film also as a sealer.
In the privacy of your garage, try this with a used filter.

I just happen to have a used filter from an oil change I did today. But,I have no garage.Should I go in the woods and do this test?

Yes.......let us know.
...and remember there is "no lung vacuum" involved when oil supposedly drains back thru ADBV.

Yep ... indicates that the ADBV is leaking a little bit.

My mouth is my "test rig" for testing ADBVs. I have thought of making some kind of rubber stopper that you could carry in your pocket to the store to jam in to the center hole then blow on the stopper with your mouth so you don't have to kiss oily base thread ... and who knows what else based on some of the comments in this thread!

Could be a valid point ... but, I figure if it seals with air and not oil film, it's definitely gonna seal in use.

Here's the best way to test the ADBV ... but of course this is after it's been used, so if it leaks all it does is tell you it leaked during time it was on the car. The blow test when new at least gives you an indication of the ADBV condition before putting it on the car.
