oil color

Recently I added oil to my van which was a quart low. The oil on the dipstick after I rechecked the level was virtually clear, like new oil.I know this boost the TBN somewhat but from bottom to top changed color.4k on the oil with one quart of CJ hdeo and the balance the standard 5w30.

Did you start the engine before you checked the level ?

If you added a quart, and that's the range from low to normal, you could simply have the new oil sitting atop the old.

No, checked prior to start for both events.The bottom and top halves of the dipstick were clean though the "dirty" oil was still lurking.
