I just got a jug of M1 5w-30 and going to change the oil on the 2000 Honda CRV. I have a jug of LC20 and a jug of VSOT for additives. It is a 4 quart system and wonder if I should do 4oz of LC plus 4oz of VSOT together or is that too many adds. I figured the LC thin out the VSOT vis increase...especially since winter is rolling in up here in North Dakota.

Thanks for the inputs!

put in 4-8 oz. of the VSOT at oil change, good for those two expensive overhead cams and valve VTEC parts...wife's CRV loves the VSOT in M1....quiet,smooth and faster revving.

every 1k miles winter and spring, put in 2oz of the LC, will help with winter cold weather start and long warm ups oxidants and crud building up in engine.
these engines run cold on the exhaust side, transverse with lots of cold air flow.

If the VSOT is anything like lucus in terms of viscosity, I wouldn't add a drop. I tried Lucus before becoming a member in my 5-cyl modular engine with m1 5w-30. Now it's been some time since doing this and not really positive the temps were anything esspecially cold, but what little I did decide to add may have contributed to the engine running harshly - everything seemed to be vibrating from the engine's power pulses...a throbbing experience.

I later flushed with new oil and added a filter. It seemed to help, but all that tackifier in the oil seemed to linger.

Perhaps I was just becoming more in-tune with things since I had started doing things to it. Sounds awful!

THe engine seems fine now, though I now have some oil seepage to contend with - ironically seeming to have been noticed around this time two. Perhaps coincidental.

Sorry if I have only served to confuse you. Personally, I would hold off till warmer weather to add anything that will thicken the viscosity of the oil, unless one counters with say a pan heater. Add the LC if you wish as it just might help support the oil's preservative additives. Honestly thought, take it FWIW as I'm not very familiar with this product myself.
