Oil Change Intervals

This has probably been posted to death - I did a search and didn't find much so forgive me if I am beating a dead horse.

I am wondering what kind of OCI's people are running. I am using Motormaster Synthetic 10w30 (Canadian Tire Store Brand) likely manufactured by another major oil company and re-bottled. It's probably overkill on my 110hp Mazda 2.2 litre. It is not GM4718 approved, just GF-4.

I'm a loyal Wix and AC-Delco filter fan. No Orange Turd (Fram) on my cars.

I have been going 8,000 km OCI - mostly because the car sees a lot of short trips. However, we just did a 5,000 km cross country drive so most of those miles are highway. However, they were high RPM, 130km/h highway. I'm at 7,000 km now, although along the way she drank up 2 extra quarts of oil.

Am I safe to go to 10,000 km? More? Thanks

5-6K intervals here with pure one filters

You can have a look at the used oil analysis forum to see what folks are running with your same set-up.

10K km may be very doable, but you probably will be best off running a used oil analysis to assure no head gasket issues, etc.

4-5k miles using whatever I get my hands on. I've gone 4,500 on Amsoil, 4,350 on Havoline, 3,000 on Valvoline, 2,000 on Valvoline, 2,500 on Havoline, 3,000 on Havoline and plan on going ~5,000 on the current fill of Pennzoil Platinum. It really depends on my driving schedule. Sometimes I'll take a lot of road trips and go longer on my intervals, or if I'm doing all short trips, taking 4-6 months I'll change it at 3k.

5000 miles is about 8000 km. I think it's a good time to try out some of that Valvoline Syn from Walmart.

One thing I noticed is that in the morning it takes just a split second longer for the oil light to go out. And that's just a little more than normal. Second start of the day it's normal. I wonder if all that high rpm, high temp driving damaged the anti-drain back valve in the oil filter?

Where can I get a used oil analysis done? What do I do?

5000 mi OCI's on everything with PP. All our vehicles do lots of stop n go. My GMC OLM gets to about 10% at 5000 so that is why I do all at 5000 because the driving is similar. Plus, it's easy to keep track of for the lady drivers...5,10,15,20,25..

5k mile OCI's on conventional oils. Pennzoil, tropartic,motorcraft, havoline, supertech, exxon superflo, whatever. 5k mile oci's with them all.

but in metric the ladies would be confused again 7.5, 15, 22.5, 30 etc...

I change oil much more frequently than I would advise.
But my general advice is:
3-5,000 on dino
6-10,000 on full synthetic

I'll go 4-5000 on my HMO and 1 year on Amsoil(up to 20000 miles). Just changed my Amsoil after 1 yr. and 13500 miles on it and it still looked very good.

Every 7-9k miles on my '00 GTI. I use all sorts of different synthetics, many of which do not meet VW's standards. I also do not have a favorite when it comes to oil filters. I'll use just about anything, except Fram.

You can run 5k miles (8000km) relatively easy on any SM conventional. With a synthetic like MM, you should be able to run a few more thousand km's, like out to 10,000 - 12,000 km (6500 -7500 miles) without issue.

Fram filters are fine. In fact, I think they are generally a good product, and that's all I use.

What do you base this on? I have had really bad experiences with Fram filters on several occasions and if you google Fram, you can see that I am not the only one.

Looks like its working out to 1 year OCI on the 88 E-150, I will switch to Pennzoil Platinum 5w30, from Mobil 1 10w30. The 08 Liberty will see 6 month OCI's using Pennzoil Platinum 5W-20. I am still on the fence about using Mobil 1 0W-20 for the winter in the Liberty.

Drivebelt - Good compared to what? Every other filter I've seen appears to be constructed better... some cheaper, too.

The hilarious thing is the more you spend on a Fram filter, the worse they appear to be constructed.

I guess I should have made it a little clearer. I said "Looks like its working out to" 1 year for the 88 E-150, and 6 months for the Liberty. The E-150 will see about 5,000 miles/year. The Jeep about 6,000-8,000/year, since it is under warranty I have to do the 6 month OCI vs. actual miles. If I go more than 6,000 miles in 6 months I would change the oil sooner.
