Oil Catch Can on 2009 Caddy CTS-V (See it working)

Too cool. I have one on my 09 Suburban but the cup on mine is aluminum. When did they start making them clear?

Did you get the updated driver side valve cover with the improved baffling? It's supposed to cut down some of that oil.

Super charged (more piston blow-by from boost), and getting on it pretty good.

StevieC ... you're fixated on catch-cans ... better order one up.

I don't need one... Just looking for proof that they work in some engines for BITOG. I have seen them collect a lot of oil in stock cars that folks race here but never really needed one for a daily driver. Now I might put one in just to see what would have gone through the valves in my Direct Injection engine if I didn't have the dual fuel injection setup to remedy the problem.

I don't know if Moroso carries a clear one, this might just be for their video to show their product works and that it's "needed"

Looks like it. I know with certain Turbo equipped GM's they can really throw out the oil and this looks like that.

Typical GM LS issues... within a few thousand miles they start using oil by both burning and pushing it out... I see nothing has changed since the intro of that engine back in the late 90's...

I remember pushing the 5.0 in the mustangs every weekend at the track and those things never used oil, yea they may not have been as fast as an LS1/LS2 but they certainly were more reliable!

Awesome video! I've used one on several cars now. Currently using the one I had on my Hemi Jeep in my Frontiers 4.0. It catches more than I would have thought considering its far from a performance engine and no turbos. I really want one on my GTI but they are pretty pricey for the VWs. My Mustang with the 4.6 3v had a small one, and caught some oil but nothing crazy.

The giant catch can on my Dad's Mini seems to get mostly water.

Here are two pics of the can on my frontier. I usually empty it every 1k or if I'm under the hood for any reason because why not. The second shows how its milky in the winter vs warmer weather.

Good point, I might rely on the PFI to keep my top lube off the valves.

I suspect within a few years a catch can will be standard on every vehicle. Keeping that oil out of the combustion chambers is going to be the best way to meet tightening emissions requirements, catalyst life requirements, etc. without dropping additive levels in oil to the point that they're ineffective. Most people don't realize that a lot of engines already have oil separation strategies in the PCV path (Hemis since 2012 have an oil separator box in the top of the intake manifold where the PCV valve itself sits, for example), but a secondary can will capture even more oil mist. I get maybe 3-4 tablespoons out of the external catch can on my 392 every 6k oil change.

Don't a lot of cars have oil separators of one kind or another? Like catch cans, but they drop oil back into the sump instead of holding it.

says the guy who didn't even watch the video let alone did any research or have any experience with one. THEY WORK, buddy, it's not a scam, let alone the biggest of the decade. Lol.

Just watched the vid. Not sure why there's oil POURING into the can. I expected mist to just build up overtime. The pouring in oil visible thru the threads makes it look like it's being injected for the video clip. Weird.

My RX-8 collects a bunch in my catch can. No more oil puddle inside the intake accordion tube and throttle body. I'm a happy camper.

It's a scam because nobody has been able to prove that the vehicle NEEDS one, as in, a stock vehicle will not function as intended without an aftermarket catch can. I've been hearing this BS for over a decade.

People say "oh my...look at all that oil, that 's bad". I say "prove that it matters, prove that it's relevant".

Answer is that in the vast majority of cases they can't.

When they then show me photos of dirty valves/intake, they say "see...look at all that crud, that's a problem". My reply is "prove it". Is the engine running fine? Yes? ....Are there drivability issues?...No?. Then what are you obsessing over?.

The best is when someone changes out the inter-cooler and remarks about "all the oil" at the bottom of the inter-cooler. Oh the horror !!!

I can think of one engine in stock tune that benefits from a catch can because of the poorly deigned separator. That's the BMW N54. Funny thing about that engine is that enthusiasts who bought the updated N55 jumped all over the catch can wagon because of the history with the N54, but the reality is that the N55 doesn't need one because BMW fixed the problem. In fact there is such minimal buildup at 100k miles that a walnut blast isn't even really needed at that mileage. Of course vendors were all over the forums promoting an alleged "need" for a catch can.

Catch cans satisfy obsessive-compulsive behavior. EOS.
