Oil at Quick lubes?

I'd love to see any sort of credible article from "insiders" claiming bulk was "recycled oil."

I believe Havoline T36 is an oil filter.

To answer your question though, the answer is "it depends".

Pennzoil is Pennzoil, it does not differ from bulk to bottle (so says Pennzoil).

Mobil bulk oil is "Mobil Clean" which is not the same as "Mobil Clean 5000" which can only be purchased in bottles or 4-5 qt jugs (so says Mobil). Mobil Clean Bulk is likely similar to Exxon Superflo (which is a decent oil).

I don't know about Chevron/Havoline or Valvoline.

Watch this video. This was 2 years ago, and saw this on the news when i lived in Minneapolis. I don't see the Pennzoil sign on the building like see here in Oregon. I called many Jiffy Lube in the Twin Cities and none of them use Pennzoil or Quaker State. Conoco Phillips is the supplier for the Twin Cities Jiffy Lube, no where there's mention of Pennzoil.

My son was at a quick lube yesterday in Atlanta and the guys in the pit said all the bulk oil is recycled so he got the bottled oil. That is enough proof for me.

we get Formula Shell in 55gallon drums for our bulk oil, I'd love to do a VOA of that and a bottle of FS 10w30 to see if they are the same.... then again wasn't there a thread about a guy who sent the same oil to a place to be analyzed and all the results were different? lol

I don't see what the concern is with recycled oil. As long as it met all today's specs then why worry? Though I can't confirm this, my friend in the parts biz told me that the majority of Northland's oil was recycled.. And I certainly have no problems buying/using it.

I can tell you this. When I changed oil in my company truck, the oil would turn black in a couple thousand miles. I was using Havoline Deposit shield bottled oil, since I have been getting my oil changed at Texaco quick lube, the oil stays brown, I had 5000 miles on the last change and it stays brown. It slightly changes color from new. Some would say this is a good thing, but I dont think that oil from the quick lube cleans at all. I would believe its recycled, something is wierd, thats why I made the post.

The problem is that there is probably SO much variation in the handling and processing of that recycled oil that the quality likely varies widely...

Unless I actually knew about the company that was recycling the oil I wouldn't take a chance on it.

The more worrisome thing to me would be all the potential contamination in that oil that may not be removed during the process ..I'm sure they remove antifreeze, brake fluid, PS fluid, ect..but what about other household products and such that they wouldn't count on being in the oil.
