I may soon send in my first UOA to Blackstone Labs. One of the things I want to know is how my oil is holding up over time and how far I should run my oil. Do I need a TBN to find this out? Does this come with the standard analysis? How do I package the bottle and slip? Can I just drop them in a padded envelope and ship them that way?

Otis ..all of this is on Blackstone's web site ..including postage requirements.

..but ..if you're looking at a black jar with a label on it ..that's what you put the postage on and mail. TBN is extra ($10, IIRC). I'd do one only if you're doing somewhat extended drains already ..but otherwise ..no.

You may find this enlightening

Good luck

Unless you know exactly what the oil is (not just brand name) you also need to analize a new oil sample so that you can see what level of shear, oxidation, or additive depletion has taken place. If it's a transmission fluid then TAN might be more helpful.
