Oil Aint Oils

I am not sure if this is posted alreay. I find it very interesting! The ball bearing test simply relies on extreme Pressure addetives and if the oil is missing that additive then it will not perform well.

Do you find the test results valuable or worthless?

I read this a couple years back. This is probably why turbo'd cars and cars with stiff aftermarket valve springs sometimes do better with RP.

Please do a search before posting. This has been on here lots of times before.
The Timken test has little relevance to wear in an engine.

This test is absolutely valid if you run your engine oil at room temperature and have needle bearings placed sideways against a larger shaft. If so I would choose an oil that performed well in this test. If I ran my engine with the ignition on and used it to generate motion and found that the oil temperature increased much above ambient then I would not be bothered if my choice of engine oil did not perform well on this test.

If I recall correctly this magazine admitted that this test was of little value and planned to find some other testing to do in the future.....
