I had about 370,000 miles on my truck when I started using the ARX back in...August maybe. I got about 385,000 now. I went through two cleaning and two rinse cycles and now I'm just doing a "normal" oil change. I have noticed less smoke at start-up, especially during the summer months but it still uses more oil than I would like. I even fixed a few oil leaks while running the ARX but still uses about the same. With the high miles I have, would it be worth going through more cycles? Even though it's a diesel, it's a very clean engine, on the short change intervals, the oil would hardly get dark at all.

Auto Rx can't help mechanical problems. Ive used it on several vehicles and have seen results. But at some point you just have to realize that it is a chemical not a miracle.
Its good stuff and it works.
If you have an extra bottle I would run normal OCI's and a maintenance dose. Although depending on your truck that dose may be a full bottle it would be interesting to see what happened.

With each application, unless you have a sludger with an issue, you will see diminishing returns.

It seemed when I was doing the drain/rinse cycles it used less than it normally does so maybe that's the key to it. I think one bottle would be about right for a maintenance dose. I got another 5000 miles before I drain again so maybe I'll add a bottle and see if that does anything for me. Thanks for the advice.

i'm sorry but after two clean/rinse cycles in 15K you prob won't see any additional benefits. and 1 bottle is a clean cycle not a maint dose

after 370K your rings are shot and everything has worn. the only potential additive might do something is that TUV cermet stuff that's being discussed on the other thread

or a rebuild or retirement

I've had friends have success with Restore in those HM tired engines. It's cheap enough to give it a try. JMO

It sounds like your valve guides and maybe your valve seals are shot or hard as a rock, arx will not bring this truck back to life, sounds like a rebuild or new in engine may be your only hope. JMO

If he tried Restore, could he use a STRONGER oil additive like Schaeffer's Neutra to clean what arx has missed.

Basically can you use Restore and Neutra at the same time.

Obviously you did not properly apply the product. You'll just have to re-do it. Check back with us in a year. If you still see no results, you have screwed it up again and will have to reapply, but this time with a double dose.

I'm sorry but diesels typically last much longer than gasoline engines. 385k could be worn out, or it could be just in the middle of its life depending on maintenance and abuse.

Restore is crud, if it helps, the effect is temporary and will be gone by the next oil change.

Exactly. But when an engine has close to 400K on it anything that might help is worth a shot. I remember when I was a kid a guy I knew had an old Chevy Van that burnt so much oil he'd mix gear oil into his oil to slow it down. I would bottle the oil from my vehicles to give to him to use for make up oil, we figured that would be better than the gear oil/oil cocktail he was feeding it.

Some engines aren't worth fixing. Some people can't afford to repair or replace them, so they experiment, or do what ever they have to do to keep them going until their situation improves.

He never said how much it is burning, how old (year), make of truck or engine, anything. A lot of diesels just consume a bit of oil, especially when worked. Completely normal.

sprintman, it sounds like you are attacking greenaccord02, there are rules on this board, everyone here is just stating there opinions about ARX.
