Looks like the pictured JD filter cross references Fram PH4967, Wix 51394 or Purolator 14476; as Newtonville mentioned it is a very common Toyota I4 application.
Heck... You could get the Mobil M1-103 filter with the money you would have spent on the John Deere, get a higher quality filter, keep the black look and still have enough left over for a brew.

It gets a steady diet of NAPA Gold 1394's now.
Wix 51396 will work also. Approx 3/8" longer than 51394, but otherwise identical. Painted white, however.
OEM Deere filters? I cannot speak for the lawn& garden division, but the North American Ag filters are all made by Donaldson & have been since 1915. Donaldson also makes the air intake system used on North American Deere tractors.
