OEM Honda vs FRAM

I know the Civic oem filter is made by FRAM, would these be identical to the off the shelf Frams?

Just wondering because my girlfriends uncle gave her 30 blue honda fram made oil filters for her next 30 oil changes (he owns a honda repair shop).

I cant really complain right now since we got all 30 of these free. Just wondering about the media, construction, etc...

The one I cut apart was about as good as the upper level parts-store Fram. If you do a search on BITOG, using "Honda" and "Fram" search terms... you'll be buried in info. I've given up on them just based on price vs features... I think you can do better for the money (about $6.50). They aren't the worst filter you could buy by a long shot. For free, I'd use them happily! Honda does have reasonably high standards for the products they purchase but from what I read, stick to the Honda OCI and don't go to an extended interval.

Let's put it this way: if FRAM's basic $3.00 filter used the same construction and media as the filters they manufacture to Honda's specifications, we probably wouldn't be having these perennial FRAM-bash parties in this oil filter forum.

Agree, Fram is not bad unless they are overpriced like they always do (but in your case, free is good).

i agree with jim. personally i do not use fram/honda oil filters because there are better filters for the money. but if i were to recieve some for free id happily use them as well and not think twice.

There is a better OEM filter available for a Honda, it's manufactured by Filtech. I recently purchased a half-dozen for my sister's 2004 Civic VP from an online Honda parts vendor. Much better filter versus the Fram (from what I've read).

It is OEM so if it ever does have a problem, they can't blame the filter.
Frams (and the Honda made Frams) are not so much bad, but overpriced. Free makes them a really good deal for the recomended OCI. Heck, I would probably use them on my Hyundai if they were free and met spec.

The 154000-PLM-AO1 filter is made by Filtech. Filtech makes them excusively for HONDA. If you get this part # you get a Filtech filter a **** good one, too.

The OEM is made in Japan. The two filters are very similar and good for extended drains.

I have one on both an 03 Ody and a 05 CRV.
Mobil 1 10w30 in the Ody and Honda 5-20 in the CRV until next oil change then to Mobil 1 10w30

I have been using the Honda PCX-004 filter (made in Japan) on our 02 Accord V6. Specced for the S2000. Would fit all Hondas. Only costs about $2 more, understand it to be a high quality filter.
