Yep..."filler neck" definitely.

It's typical, sound advice....sure we don't always do it, I do though

Typically whenever I check my oil, I check under the oil cap for moisture/milky substance. thus far, I've been lucky to find none...

THOUGH, did notice the "yellow" paint is starting to chip off my oil filler cap....I'd hate for paint chips to fall into the engine...tempted to just replace it next time I'm at Advance/AZ...can't see it being more than $20 for a new oil filler cap....

I generally pull the filter (if it's not too hot) while the oil is still draining just to get the job done a bit faster. I've changed the oil at operating temperature a few times, but it probably fall under the "Safety 3rd" way of doing things.

In some cars the oil filter is not far from an exhaust pipe and that is hot if you touch it. In my Jeep I loosen the filter with a band wrench then the rest of the way by hand (maybe a little at a time if its hot) and then try and hold the filter in the wrench and get it out. It does not always work like I want however.

I try and use up the clean areas of the paper towels I have with me and thus I might clean the filler neck or around it.

This was odd."Fill to three-quarters of the engine’s capacity to avoid
overfilling, as there is always oil that does not drain"
