I know it's a general question with many variables. I posted before that I change every 10k miles 15w50 for the last 7 years. Per recommendation of a mechanic where I worked.
This was on dodge Caravan and for the last 2 years also on Dodge 2004 1500 5.7 hemi. The vehicles run fine and start quick in winter but I have noticed the oil seems to darken quickly. I did a couple of flushes with Gunk on the truck (ran 2 short 1k ocis) with MMO and very cheap dino and then did the Gunk flushes. Will maybe do something similar with the Caravan.
Anyways, now experimenting with lighter oil. Should I shorten the OCI's.

I would pay little attention to the oil darkening quickly. Especially if you use Mobil 1. I have had M1 get dark in 1500 miles in a new vehicle.

Yep, 1500 miles, that's about how fast it darkens on me. I was checking oil level and a friend saw how dark the oil was and told me the engine must be sludgy. Got me worried.

no darkening of oil doesn't mean its used up, it is a bit of a oh no my oil is worn out feeling when it happens but not at all, if stressed do a used oil analysis and see how the oil is sitting at your normal change mileage

I doubt it.
