o2 sensor specs

well after time and time of neglecting my 1991 honda accords o2 sensor i decided to check it today.

i tested it with a voltage meter in the right prong. i took out the harness and then the book (helms) told me to hook it up to "connector D" and checked the voltage at idle.

i did warm up the car prior if your wondering.

as i checked the voltage at idle it was
.04-.05mv at idle, which the book said its good.

yet when i revved it and heled it at 2, 3, or 4000 rpm...it stayed at .06-.07 mv.

now the book said it should fluxuate from idle to 1.0 mv and if it does not then the sensor is bad.

now is my sensor toast? can explain my poorish gas milage.

I'd say it's dead, jim. Even if it weren't completely dead, a 13 year old sensor can't be the best thing to keep around.

It's only about 20-25 bucks, right?

Yep. Unfortunatly on most cars, they computer will let the O2's get very slow before they actually trip a code. Still hurts your mileage/emissions, but won't affect driveability much.

I think I picked up two new O2's for my SHO for around $90.

i guess i cant get around the price. i was searching and people said that they clean off the carbon with a propane torch. it helps but gets bad later.

i think i will try that, i dont have the money for a new o2 sensor right now, i just purchaced a new intake manifold with dual runners and it took a toll on my bank =). actually i saved alot of money, but anyways.

can i use a butane torch?

i should take mine out with a special socket to look at the condition of the sensor.

Did you check the more 'discount' vendors online? Like Rock Auto and the like? I did a quickie search on a 91 Honda and they seem to be 34 each, not 60+.

Honda's are known for having a "tight" CEL. Things have to go pretty bad before that light will turn on.
