O2 Sensor - Questions

02 Camry, light was on, buddy scanned it and gave a code...O2 Sensor. NAPA...he gives me cost...it was 114 or so, 220 something if not. It was a Denso. Is it hard to replace...I am willing to give'r a try, but not even sure where it is?

Some advice/recommendations?

On a camry 4 it should be staring right at you front and center through the centre of the exhaust manifold. Its only about as hard as changing a spark plug that hasnt been changed in 30 years

Make sure the exhaust donuts, springs, flanges etc on the front pipe arent leaking as that will throw a code too. BTW, Carmy 4 exhaust shields are preferred by onderhood chefs 7-1 over any other make. Maybe some reheated pulled pork or some herbed swordfish butter dripped onto the 02 when cooking on the way to the park?

What engine is this? Do you have the Os sensor removal tool? It's really helpful. Looks like a socket with a hole cut in the side.

No sensor removal tool. Is there something similar I should use?

I just did both on my !echo!. PB Blaster and a 30 minute soak and a 7/8 open end socket (or correct metric =) was all i needed. YMMV.

People on BITOG recommended changing both if you car is equipped.

< 30 minutes.

Depending on how long the sensor is you can just cut the wire off and use a deep socket. A good fitting box end wrench works okay if you have the room, use a longer piece of plastic drain pipe over the wrench to get some leverage or hammer it on the side to move it initially (yep its shade tree but it works).

Both have proven successful when the correct tools were not available.

You can knock off the top of the sensor [if you are sure you are going to replace it] and use a normal socket.
This tip really helps in tight spots.
Sometimes those O2 split sockets fail.
