My 96 sunfire is on the OEM original oxygen sensor (knock on wood). no check engine light and just passed emissions last month. I'm not touching it unless the check engine light comes on. On my old 92 mitsubishi mirage, the OEM oxygen sensor lasted almost 10 years until it had to be changed. I had to use hot candle wax to get that seized oxygen sensor out.

I change them on the vic with 120k on them (no light on and the car drove fine), and the differences was like nigh and day afterward.

A lot of newer cars have 5 wire wideband sensors that can actually report a ratio instead of flipping back and forth between lean/rich. I wonder if what their expected lifespan is compared to the old style ones.

At least on the Toyota the wideband sensor is 4 wire. I had to change mine. The car had 160K on it but I purchased it at 135K. I do not know if it was original or was already replaced once.
