Hi guys,

I have a 1999 Mitsubishi Pajero/Montero manual.

A common issue is that (especially when cold) 2nd gear is hard to get in.

The Pajero forums recommend this friction modifier which apparently helps a lot:

Would this in the longterm degrade the transmission even further?
My understanding is these types of friction modifiers actually create more friction so synchros work a bit better - Is this correct?

you dont really want reduced friction in a passenger car manual transmission.
^^This. If your transmission fluid is "too slippery" you'll get gear clash every time you shift. Dedicated standard transmission fluids have the friction adds the synchros need to function.

I have used it many years ago with some old oil, worked well. Best to change to a quality gear oil though if you have the time etc.
