True. But with AWD such as our Haldex systems, you must rotate religiously to maintain very even tread depths, and if any tires short of a full set needs replacing, all the replacements must be shaved. Otherwise, wave bye-bye to the transfer case.


i rotate at every oil change, the tread depths are the same all around.

You're so glad that you have to buy four tires even when they're not all needed?

It's like being glad for high taxes or extra long stop lights.


usually when they wear down, the other 2 are right there. plus i cant wait to get some decent, read michelin or BFG KDWs on this car instead of the horrible ones that are on there.

here at costco in leesburg i have seen the tech torque every lug nut on every car.
i really am impressed with the service there.

You reminded me of something- I was visiting a friend in Alexandria, VA, and needed a wheel balance. Think I lost a weight on the roadtrip out. I hit the web and chose the closest place. Merchant's Tire on Duke Street. Those guys couldn't have been nicer or have done a better job.

A few months later, at home, I needed an alignment, and found that NTB was part of their "corporate family" and so I went there. And *these* guys were awful. The guy broke a part on the rear, covered it up, and didn't tell me.

I went to a NTB once to get a tire patch. With no one else waiting in the lobby, he looked at me and stated that they would be able to get to in a couple of days. I would have rather he told me "we don't bother with such things, leave my property."

All the NTB in south FL closed, which really didn't surprise me as they were more expensive than Tire Kingdom and did very poor work.

Who ended up recalling their product? I don't think it was Ford...

Goodyear made a tire for the Explorer to the same Ford specifications, and it was recommended to be run at the same tire pressure, yet it didn't fail at the same miserable rate of the Firestone tires.

Also, Goodyear wasn't having a serious multi-year labor problem in the plant that made the majority of the tires that went on Explorers, as Firestone was. That plant was 45 miles away.


Didn't ford send out new door stickers that stated to put higher pressure in the tires?
