I've got a 6.5KVA Marine Genny powered by a 3 pot Yanmar Diesel.
I recently stripped, cleaned and greased the starter using Molykote BR2 for the bushes and Superlube NLGI2 for the nylon mechanism between the solenoid and pinion. All good.
I've been chasing down Yanmar service manuals to see if I could find what might have been in it originally. They all use Hitachi made in Japan Starters, and it was certainly greased from the factory.
The service manuals for newer build Yanmars all list this NPC-FC6A grease and the closest I've got thus far is NPC likely represents Nippeco as a manufacturer, but can find no specs or cross reference to an FC series grease.
It may also stand for Nippeco as a product line, which apparently is a Lithium Soap based grease. Again, all good but mineral or synthetic, and what grade?
I'm surprised it's called out specifically in the service manual, yet there's no apparent reference to it anywhere else. So, this being the site for lubricant anoraks I thought I'd ask if anyone might have an idea?
Regards,
Brad
